Charles Stubbs' "Let art experts choose art" forum letter of April 8 reflects the soothing, smoothing philosophy of Plato's Republic: Let the Experts rule us, we're incapable of any thought of our own unless we've gone to school and have been trained for the ministry. Obviously Mr. Stubbs has spent far too much time in the government's schools and needs to read the New York State Teacher of the Year's book "Dumbing Us Down." The experts told us in the 1940s that by the year 1980 we'd only need six computers worldwide. The experts sat on cellular telephone technology for 30 years because they didn't think anyone would use it. The experts tell us we crawled up from the slime.
The experts gave us 40 million abortions in the name of Roe vs. Wade. An "ex" is a has been and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure. You're very arrogant when you take my taxpayer money and buy art with it and then tell me not to complain, to shut up and like it 'cause my betters have made the decision. Tell me, is Doug Snow one of the NEA's kept "artists"? You've not read "The Naked Communist" by W. Cleon Skousen. You should. Communist goal No. 22 reads, "Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression." An American communist cell was told to "Eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms." Goal 23, "Control art critics and directors of art museums. Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art." Please understand, there's not a commie under every bed. Given our studied ignorance and moral rot, there doesn't need to be.Daniel L. Cooper
