Third District Judge Robin W. Reese set June 2 date for a preliminary hearing for Bruce Eric Ballenger, a West Jordan police officer charged with raping a woman he met during a domestic dispute call.
The hearing will be at 9 a.m. before 3rd District Judge Pat B. Brian.Ballenger, 31, has been a patrol officer in West Jordan since 1996. He was charged April 3 with two counts of rape, a first-degree felony, and two counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.
Reese ordered Ballenger not to have contact with the alleged victim or any potential witnesses in the case. Ballenger's attorney, Ron Yengich, asked that the order be a mutual obligation.
A police report indicated that Ballenger and the woman had been dating for about six months before the alleged incident.
Police and prosecutors have said that Ballenger and the woman had been drinking wine and watching a video at her home in West Jordan during the early hours of March 14 when Ballenger allegedly forced himself on her.
Court documents said the woman repeatedly told Ballenger no and said "I can't do this."
Ballenger has been suspended without pay since March 17.
