A Brigham Young University student was honored Tuesday for his role in helping police nab a rape suspect.
Tace Hart, a 28-year-old engineering major, received the Mayor's Award of Excellence from Mayor Lewis Billings. Billings periodically gives the award to people who better the community.Hart reported seeing a suspicious man hanging around a parking lot just south of BYU in mid-February. Hart was aware from news reports that several women had been sexually assaulted in the area. He also had seen a police sketch of the suspect in a newspaper or on television.
Police arrested the 38-year-old man in the parking lot after receiving Hart's call. The man is now serving time in the Utah State Prison for kidnapping and sexual assault.
