Robert Bruce May, 81, of American Fork passed away on Sunday, April 19, 1998 at his home following an illness.
Bruce was born on May 8, 1916 to Fred and Francis May. He lived his childhood years in West Jordan, UT helping his family on the farm. He married Virginia Holmstead of American Fork on February 2, 1940. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in several places: Draper, Idaho, Wyoming and California, but settled in American Fork for most of their lives. They had seven children, whom he loved to be with. He was a welder mechanic for his occupation. He repaired heavy machinery that was used to build many of the roads here in UT. He retired in 1979 and spent several years traveling and enjoying his children and grandchildren. He loved to hunt with his sons and ride his horse in the mountains. He was an excellent gardener and was known for sharing his fresh produce with everyone.He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia of 58 years; four sons, Bruce of Bozeman, Montana; Doug of Lehi; Lawrence of Salina, Utah; Bill of Twin Falls, Idaho; three daughters, Sondra Smith of Glenwood, Canada; Christine Nielson of American Fork; Carol Carson of Highland; five sisters, Jennie Schmidt of West Jordan; Barbara Wilhelmson of Murray; Francis Jenkins of West Jordan; Florence Nix of Sandy; Katherine Peterson of Midvale; 40 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
He will always be remembered by his family and friends as a loving and caring person. He was a hard worker and taught his children the value of integrity and honesty. We will miss him dearly, our loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
A viewing will be held at Anderson and Sons Mortuary, Thursday, April 23 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, April 24 at the American Fork Stake Center, 240 South Center at 11 a.m.
