Bonnie Elaine Smith Hogle, died at her home, April 20, 1998.
She was born March 30, 1915 to Hugh White Smith and Elsie Eleanor Rich Smith in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended the University of California at Berkeley. She married James E. Hogle on September 6, 1936. He died December 15, 1993.Bonnie worked for the Utah Polio Foundation from 1944 through 1949, and was Polio Ball Chairman in 1944-45. She was a member of the Junior League of Salt Lake City, and was its president in 1948-49.
She was the founder of the Utah Rheumatic Fever Association and acted as its president in 1950-51. Later, this organization became the Utah Heart Association, of which she was a board member, officer and director. She was Heart Sunday Chairman in 1957.
In 1956, Bonnie was Chairman of the Board of the Art Barn School of Fine Arts. She had a life long love of art and encouraged and supported young artists. She worked with the Utah Symphony board from 1955 through 1961 and was Chairman of the Symphony Ball in 1961.
Bonnie and Jim were members of the Salt Lake Country Club, the Alta Club, the Town Club and the Desert Island Club in Rancho Mirage, CA.
She is survived by her four sons, James E. Hogle, Jr. (Deb), Dr. Hugh H. Hogle (Carol), Donald M. Hogle, (Marlane) and Owen C. Hogle (Sheri), and her sister, Afton Owens. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leroy and Emil. She has 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 So., Salt Lake City, Thursday, April 23, 1998 at 12 noon, service a 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donation to the Utah Zoological Society, 2600 Sunnyside Ave., 84108 or the Utah Heart Association.
