The American League will not penalize Kansas City Royals shortstop Felix Martinez for a kick that broke Minnesota outfielder Otis Nixon's jaw.
The Twins were notified of the decision Thursday."They reviewed the tape and saw what everyone can see, but they took into consideration that the kid made an attempt to apologize and Otis accepted the apology," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said.
Nixon was hurt April 4 while sliding into second base attempting to break up a double play. He missed three games with a fractured jaw because of the kick and can't eat solid food until it heals.
"That's fine," Nixon said of the AL's decision. "Now we can put this behind us and move on from here."
