Orval Mecham, 82, of Orem, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at the Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem.
He was born June 17, 1915, in Hayden, Utah, a son of James Duke and Zina Ellen Duncan Mecham. He married DeLenna Bradshaw, September 22, 1947, in the Logan LDS Temple. He graduated from high school and barber school.He was a horse wrangler and construction worker for a few years in his youth. He was a barber for 48 years and a part-time farmer most of his life. He enjoyed gardening, raising fruit, raising and riding horses, camping and visiting with family and friends.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had completed a full-time mission to the Eastern States Mission. He served many years as ward clerk, was a counselor in the bishopric, and various other callings. He was active in his High Priest Group and temple work.
He is survived by his wife, DeLenna, of Orem; his children, James Orval (Donna) Mecham, Laramie, Wyoming; Janice (Eric) Sullivan, Vernal; Marilyn (Robert) Moore, Salt Lake City; Brent Bradshaw (April) Mecham, Sugarland, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters, Ila Rhae Bacon, Caldwell, Idaho; Merlin J. (Neva) Mecham; Bountiful; Leo Devon Mecham, Fruitland; and Glenna Dean Campbell, Rancho Cucamonga, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Nolan D. Mecham.
He was well loved by his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, at 11 a.m. in the Vermont Second Ward Chapel, 400 East 400 North, Orem. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, and Thursday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by VFW District #4.
