A Utah company is seeking the zoning change it needs to establish a gold processing facility north of the Utah border in Sweetwater County.
Jeff Gildaire, chairman of the board for Calcitron, said his company plans to ship ore from its Utah mine to the gold mill about 45 miles south of Rock Springs for processing.Gildaire said his company has applied for the zoning change with the county. He said he selected Wyoming for his facility because Utah's permitting process is too slow.
Pete Rust, Sweetwater County land use officer, said agencies including the Bureau of Land Management and the state Game and Fish Department will also have to review the proposal.
Rust said Calcitron's application will be considered by the Sweetwater County Planning and Zoning Commission in June.
Gildaire said it would take about nine months to build the facility, and after construction the mill would employ about 100 people.
