A 13-year-old boy lost an eye when a gun his friends were playing with discharged Saturday morning, police said.
The bullet hit the boy in the head, causing critical injuries, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Sandra Urry. A group of about five juveniles were playing with the handgun at a house near the 660 East block of Redondo Avenue (2000 South). The victim wasn't holding the gun when it fired about 9 a.m.Paramedics transported the boy to LDS Hospital, where he remained in critical condition. Police haven't released the boy's name.
"He had critical injuries but they weren't life-threatening," Urry said. "He did lose an eye."
The shooting appears to be accidental and officers have not made any arrests, Urry added.
