After weeks of negotiations and a threatened lawsuit, the Ogden School District and about 100 teachers have settled a dispute over back pay.

Under the settlement, some teachers will receive lump-sum payments and have their pay level increased as much as two steps in the 16-step teacher salary system."We are satisfied with this proposal," said Ann Moulton, president of the Ogden Education As-so-ciation. "We have always been confident that we would work it out."

The dispute began seven years ago when the school district, under the direction of board members no longer serving, decided to hire new teachers at a higher pay scale to attract them to the district.

However, some experienced teachers were hired at the same pay scale as the new, inexperienced teachers because no adjustment had been made for them.
