Salt Lake Buzz left-hander Benj Sampson pitched six shutout innings to lead his team to a 2-1 Pacific Coast League victory over the Tacoma Rainiers on Friday night.

Sampson (1-0) struck out seven and allowed Tacoma only three hits.The Buzz scored all the runs they would need to win in the fourth inning.

Scott Stahoviak was hit by a pitch from Tacoma's right-hander Ryan Franklin (1-2) to lead off the inning. Chad Rupp then doubled, putting runners at second and third. Corey Koskie hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Stahoviak and sending Rupp to third base. Esteban Beltre then hit a sacrifice fly to right, and Rupp scored.

Tacoma's only run came in the seventh when Ricky Cradle led off with a double against reliever Dan Naulty. Rico Rossy doubled to score Cradle.
