John Cardinal O'Connor, the archbishop of New York, said he will not attend any baseball games this year because the major leagues did not take a day of rest on Good Friday.

"I love the Yankees. I love the Mets. I love baseball," O'Connor wrote in Catholic New York. "But I will not go to a game because major league teams played on Good Friday."While 15 games were played last Friday, O'Connor was particularly upset that the Yankees and the Cleveland Indians started their games at 1:05 p.m.

"Why did they play during the Sacred Hours?" O'Connor asked. "Even the stock market closes on Good Friday. Playing on Good Friday ... cheapens our culture. I resent it."
