ACADEMICS: Four Utah State student-athletes have earned Academic All-Big West honors for the winter sports season the conference announced. Neal Geddes of the basketball team and three members of the gymnastics team, Trina Ewart, Emily Swank, and Melisa Torres were the Aggie honorees. All four were members of Big West champion teams this year for the Aggies.

Weber State

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Weber State University head men's basketball coach, Ron Abegglen, has announced the signing of a high school freshman and a junior college transfer, to national letters of intent to play for the Wildcats next season.

Those signed were Daniel Del Vecchio (6-7, 230 Forward) from Guilford High School in Rockford, Illinois, and Darius Beard (6-10, 250 Center), from Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah via Bonneville High School in Ogden, Utah.

Del Vecchio (VECK-ee-oh) played for Coach Tony Holifield at Guilford High. This past season he averaged 14.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He also carries a 3.51 grade point average as well.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah Valley State College women's coach Cathy Nixon has announced the singing of four new hoop recruits for next year's Wolverine squad.

Joining the Wolverines will be Niki Sadowski, a 5-10 forward out of Provo High School; Megan Oldham, a 5-7 guard out of Payson High; Marianne Miller, a 5-7 swingman out of Middleton, Idaho; and Holly Smith, a 5-11 forward out of Mountain View High in Mesa, Arizona.

The new recruits will join a UVSC team that went 23-10 last year and finished second in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
