BYU Women will feature guest lecturer Janie Thompson on Saturday, April 18, at 2 p.m. in 2260 Conference Center.
The lecture is open to all women associated with Brigham Young University, and admission is free.Thompson was chosen to speak because of her involvement with BYU, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the city of Provo, said Karen Benzley, president of BYU Women.
After a professional career as a big-band singer, Thompson left the music scene to head the Program Bureau for BYU, which oversaw the early touring program for many of BYU's performing groups.
Thompson has served on the LDS Young Women's General Board for 16 years. In 1971, Provo proclaimed a Janie Thompson Day in her honor and she was named Citizen of the Year for Provo in 1992.
