An Orem woman hit by a mail truck about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday remained in critical condition Thursday at LDS Hospital.

Police say Elida Ketty Herbas, 52, was attempting to cross Geneva Road on Center Street in Lindon when she was struck by a northbound mail truck. She was not in a cross-walk.Herbas was taken to American Fork Hospital and later flown by helicopter ambulance to the Salt Lake hospital to be treated for a serious head injury, a broken left leg and a fractured pelvis.

Lt. Cody Cullimore said the victim was not carrying identification. Police combed the area for business owners or residents who could recognize Herbas.

"One of businesses in the area is the LDS cannery and storehouse. Apparently, she had been there volunteering and working," he said. Family members were contacted and her identity was verified.

A citation was not issued to the driver of the mail truck, Cullimore said.

"There is no indication of any fault on the part of the letter carrier."
