The English actor Alan Cumming, who stars as the master of ceremonies in the new Broadway production of "Cabaret," thought he was pulling any old guy out of the audience the other night when he dragged someone onstage to dance.

The audience went wild with applause, said the New York Post, which Cumming thought was appreciation for his success at finding a volunteer.Then he asked the man for his name: "Walter Cronkite."
