Karl Malone Power forward

The Mailman's week was just the usual. You know, a 56-point game here, knocking out a friend there with a league-imposed suspension ending a streak of 543 consecutive games played too. Here's a question for you: Can someone who missed a game due to an NBA suspension still earn the league's "Player of the Week" honor? Malone, in the three games he played, averaged 41.7 points and 10.3 rebounds.

John Stockton Point guard

Stockton, after dishing out 23 assists in the first two games last week, had only eight (four each) against the Clippers and Timberwolves. He will have his hands full with Stephon Mar-bury again on Tuesday night. The 21-year-old point guard went off for 30 points with 10 assists against the Jazz on Saturday night. As the playoffs approach, watch for Stockton to assume more of a scoring role himself. He averaged 14 points per game last week.

Jeff Hornacek Shooting guard

Horny, who has chronic knee problems, sometimes struggles when the Jazz have a lot of games bunched together. A case in point was Saturday when the Jazz played their fourth game in five days. Hornacek was only 1-for-6 shooting from the field. There is more time off between games in the playoffs, which should be a good thing for Hornacek. He had a big night against the Clippers with 23 points on 10-of-17 from the floor.

Adam Keefe Small forward

Keefe was a bright spot on a costly night for the Jazz on Saturday. He scored 17 points with 10 rebounds versus the Timberwolves while playing the most minutes on the team other than Malone. A year ago Keefe was the odd man out during the playoffs. This year he'll be a starter and a major contributor to the Jazz's run, however long that may be.

Greg Ostertag Center

The Big O. seems to be coming around a bit, but Jazz coaches are still reluctant to use him during the second half of close games. He had six rebounds in only 12 minutes against the Timberwolves - all in the first half - and scored 11 points vs. the Clippers on Friday. He only played eight minutes against the Warriors and had a hard time defending Tim Duncan in 26 minutes against the Spurs.

Bryon Russell Small forward

Russell, after averaging double figures through the first three games last week, had an off night against the Tim-ber-wolves. He was only 1-for-6 from the field for two points while picking up four fouls. He's still coming off the bench, as he has since the sixth game of the year, but is playing starter-like minutes on most nights. One exception was against the Spurs, when he played only 15 minutes as the Jazz opted for bigger bodies.

Howard Eisley Point guard

Eisley was on fire against the Clippers. He made 9-of-11 shots, including two of his three 3-pointers, to finish with a career-high 22 points. He also found enough time to dish out five assists and grab five boards. Jerry Sloan says his backup point guard has played so well that he deserves additional playing time - but that it's hard to find it for him since he plays behind one of the all-time greats.

Antoine Carr Center/forward

The Big Dawg has missed 13 consecutive games with a strained right hamstring that has taken far longer to heal than was originally anticipated. The Jazz have done fine without him, going 11-2. It may be difficult for him to get back into the rotation and into playing shape at this late date. He has the ability to score and is a big body with six fouls to give, so he still could come in handy during the playoffs.

Greg Foster Center/forward

Foster will be a marked man when he enters the Forum in Inglewood to play the Lakers on Sunday. He did not endear himself to anyone on that team in the last game, but Shaquille O'Neal and Laker coach Del Harris seemed to be particularly peeved at Utah's starting center.
