Howard W. Price, a former president of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce, died April 6, 1998, in Salt Lake City. He was 85.

Mr. Price was active in civic and business affairs.The 1929 West High graduate spent 30 years working his way up from mail boy to president of the Salt Lake Hardware Co., among the largest wholesale hardware houses in the Mountain West.

Mr. Price also organized Turf Equipment Co. and became its president. He also was president of the National Wholesale Hardware Association.

He served from 1960-66 on the board of the Salt Lake City branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, finishing his term as board chairman. He also was an advisory board member for First Security Bank of Utah.

Mr. Price served as president of the Utah Foundation, a nongovernmental tax research organization.

He was an honorary colonel in the Utah National Guard.

Services will be held Saturday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
