Yes Virginia, there are some people who still celebrate Arbor Day.
And the Murray Shade Tree Commission expects a number of them will show up April 24 for its annual Arbor Day/Earth Day observance in Winchester Park. The program will start at 12:30 p.m. in the park, on 6400 South and adjacent to the Jordan River (about 1200 West.)
Fare for the afternoon will include tree planting, 10-minute educational sessions on topics such as wetlands protection and water conservation, and a puppet show titled "The Mystery of Muddy Flats."
The commission also will honor a Murray resident who has demonstrated civic responsibility and community spirit, and awards will be given to elementary school winners of the annual Arbor Day Poster Contest.
