An 18-year-old man was in American Fork Hospital undergoing plastic surgery on his hand after a possible drive-by shooting incident in Provo on Wednesday.
Provo police Detective Bud Walker said the young man told police he was walking along the road in the area of 800 North and University Avenue at about 3 p.m. when he felt his left hand jerk and he realized he'd been shot.Walker said the wound is a fairly extensive injury with about a quarter of the man's hand blasted away.
The victim told police he flagged down a stranger to take him to the emergency room at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He was later transferred to American Fork.
Walker said the victim gave his name as David Ivan Gon-zales-Arcos, address unknown.
He described his attackers as men in a white car who swore at him and sped away after the incident.
However, Walker said the injury is not consistent with one made with a gun shot from a distance.
