Families who have owned farms in Utah County for at least 100 years may be honored with the Century Farm and Ranch program, said Dean Miner, Utah State University Extension agent.

Miner is chairman of the Utah County committee that will nominate farms or ranches to the state committee. Three farms or ranches were recognized in Utah County last year. Statewide more than 430 were recognized in 1996 when the program began and 24 were recognized last year.Application forms for the 1998 recognition are available at the Utah County Extension Office, 51 S. University Ave., room 206. They must be returned no later than May 1 with a check or money order for $100 to Century Farm and Ranch Committee. Awards will be announced by June 1.

The fee covers the cost of a metal sign, a name plate to identify the farm owners and an embossed certificate. The fee may be higher for farmers who order a name plate with livestock brand or farm logo, Miner said.
