Donald Ross Spradling, age 70, died on April 8, 1998 at the St. George Care Center in St. George, UT.

He was born Feb 21, 1928, in Bakersfield, CA, to Charles Vern and Mary Eufaula Owen. He married Shirley Renee Graham, Sept 8, 1948 in Salt Lake City, UT. Donald graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City and attended the University of Utah. His military service includes: active duty - 11th Airborne Division in Japan in 1947, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C., in 1952 and Korean Military Advisory Group, Korea, in 1953. He also served 27 years with Utah Army National Guard as Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander of 19th Special Forces Group (Abn). He was a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff Course, Advanced Infantry and Artillery Branch Courses and Special Warfare School. He retired in 1979 with the rank of Colonel of Infantry.Donald was employed by the State of Utah for 20 years and served as the Executive Director of the State Office of Emergency Services.

He loved fishing, gardening and had a lot of interests. He was a perfectionist. Donald was loved by his fellow workers, his military co-workers had great respect and love for him. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was always serving others and lovingly took care of his elderly parents and in-laws.

Donald is survived by his wife, Shirley, of St. George; son, Donald N. Spradling, of Salt Lake City; two daughters: Mrs. Clark (Susan) Morris, of St. George; Mrs. Brett (Diane) Young, of Palm Springs, CA; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Funeral services Saturday, April 11, 1998 at 1 p.m. in the Spilsbury & Beard Desert Rose Memorial Chapel, 110 South Bluff, St. George. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the Mortuary. Interment, St. George City Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, St. George, Utah - 673-2454.
