LaVall Harker Matthews passed away April 7, 1998 in Sandy, Utah.

Born June 4, 1914, to Rhea Slade and Horace G. Harker in Murray, Utah. Married Preston Lee Matthews, July 14, 1934. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Attended school in Utah and Wyoming. She loved all things of beauty, her puppy "Lady Peanut" and Tiny. Her yard was the garden of her life. She loved her flowers and vegetable garden. Meal time was always a great occasion. She was a wonderful homemaker, and loved all the details in her children's lives, and those around her, every detail being important. Her home was her castle. She easily adapted to life's changes. She was totally devoted to her husband and children. She loved her Bishop, Dennis Leavitt, and home teacher, Dean Capson. The members the Mountain Shadows 5th Ward were an extension of her family. She served in Primary and Relief Society, but totally enjoyed her current calling as a greeter each Sunday morning.Survived by her daughters, Rhea Lee (Arthur F.) Kiisel, Holladay; LaVella Briggs, Anchorage, AK; her boy, Chad Muir Martin, Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law and friend, Violet McCleery; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Norman G. Harker, Sun City, AZ; sister, Hallie Fox, St. George, UT; brother, Melvin Harker. Preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, LaWana Muir Martin; sister, Neda Rasmussen.

Rhea is so grateful for the love and caring of Max and Marjorie Wood, and Mama's choice and special servants, Camilla and Louise Ogden; and Joan and Carl Crowther for compassion beyond the call of duty. She is also grateful for the care given by Ven Care Hospice, and the staff at Crosslands Health Care Center.

Funeral services Friday, April 10, 1998, 12 Noon, in the Mountain Shadows 5th LDS Ward Chapel, 7905 South 2700 West. Friends may call at the wardhouse on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 12 Noon. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
