An obstetrician was absolved of negligence in a "wrongful birth" claim brought by the parents of a Down syndrome child who said they would have aborted the child if the doctor had performed prenatal tests.

A federal jury on Wednesday rejected the malpractice case brought against Dr. Steven Larson by Sally and Gaylen Thibeault of St. Agatha. The couple contended Larson failed to perform prenatal testing that would have revealed their unborn child's disability. The parents sought unspecified damages to cover the costs of caring for their son, Eric, now 7.
