Iona Child Flinders, 87, our mom, grandma and G. G., left her mortal life on March 29, 1998 for a happy reunion with her husband Elwood, son, George Leo, parents, Leo W. and Fannie Child, brothers, Arvel, Leon and Spencer Leo Child, sisters, Helen Olsen and Faye Child, three grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Clinton, Utah was her birthplace on January 7, 1911. She was married November 20, 1929 in the Salt Lake Temple and lived in Hooper, Utah and Nyssa, Oregon. Five years after daddy's death, she moved to Sandy, Utah in 1983 and for the past five years has made her home with her daughter, Gail, where she peacefully passed away.She dearly loved her family. Her life was one of joy. It was filled with service to her family and her dear friends. She suffered afflictions and endured them well. Her talents were many and she shared them lovingly.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions of leadership.

She is survived by daughters, Carole (Tim) Sexton, Cleo (Lorin) Saunders and Gail (Richard) Johnson; a son, Gerald (Marilyn) Flinders; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchild and sister-in-law, Wanda Child.

Services will be held in the Willow Creek 1st Ward, 2115 E. Sublette Place (8430 So.) at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, conducted by Bishop Jack W. Sunderlage. Friends may meet the family at the Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 So., Salt Lake City from 7 to 8:30 on Tuesday night and one hour prior to services at the church. Concluding services will be on April at the Nyssa, Oregon Cemetery at 11 a.m.

The family expresses grateful appreciation to Lori, Heatherly, Nadine, Deb and Sue Ann, who tenderly cared for mom in her final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, our mom would be pleased with donations to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
