Harold G. Duke "Hal" passed away on March 27, 1998, with his family by his side.
Hal was born in Heber, Utah on September 11, 1917 to Helen and Ray Duke. Hal spent most of his life in Vernal, Utah where he and his wife Carolyn are the owners of The Best Western Antlers Motel. He was vice president of Ashton Brothers Department Store for 42 years.Hal was an original member of the JC's, as well as a member of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Uintah Travel Council and The Dynomites. He was honored with many distinguished awards for his service to the Vernal community.
Hal is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Judy (Ken) Vierra; granddaughter, Alyson (Larry) Hileman; great-grandchildren, Brittney and Logan Hileman. He has two sisters, JoAnn Lewis, SLC, UT; Marge (Bill) Barndt, Pennsylvania; one brother, E. Jay (Naomi) Duke, Colorado; in-laws, Earl Woolley, Vernal, UT; and Clayton and Mary Simmons, Glenwood Springs, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wilson and Bill Lewis and Marion Woolley.
Services will be held March 31, 1998 at 11 a.m. at the Vernal 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 470 W. 100 S. Friends may call at Thomson's Vernal Mortuary Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thomson's Vernal Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Uintah Care Center or the Alzheimers Association. Hal's family would like to thank the Uintah Care Center & Adult Day Care staff for their wonderful care of their loved one.
