Karl Malone Power forward

The Mailman will likely finish second in the MVP voting to Michael Jordan, but he continues to have an MVP-like year. He surpassed Moses Malone Saturday to move into sole possession of fourth place on the NBA's all-time scoring list. He averaged his jersey number in points - 32 - in back-to-back games over the weekend against Dallas and the Lakers.

John Stockton Point guard

Stockton celebrated his 36th birthday with the team on Thursday - complete with cake and "Happy Birthday" singing - on the flight to Dallas to take on the Mavericks. He missed the first two games against the Lakers this year, and the Jazz lost both times. He scored 13 points with nine assists on Saturday and the Jazz beat L.A. by 15.

Jeff Hornacek Shooting guard

Hornacek had a big game Friday against the Mavericks, shooting 70 percent from the field for 18 points. He also added eight assists and three steals, both game highs. Despite missing two games earlier this month to rest a sore left knee, Hornacek has played in 339 of a possible 342 games since joining the Jazz in 1994.

Adam Keefe Small forward

In addition to helping the Jazz to three victories, Keefe had a busy week off the court. He had a brief midweek trip to California to be with family after his grandfather passed away. Keefe also angered a Jazz advertiser during a live post-game television interview by telling of a bad experience he had with that particular restaurant/pub. He later apologized for not handling the matter in a more professional way.

'Tag has been back from the injured list for a couple of weeks but is still trying to get into shape and earn more playing time. He struggled against the Mavs, scoring no points with two rebounds and two turnovers in nine minutes. He played nine more productive minutes against the Lakers, scoring four points with four rebounds and a blocked shot.

Bryon Russell Small forward

After a sluggish start to the season, Russell seems to be right back where he left off last year. He's making 3-pointers, getting fast-break dunks and playing strong defense. He's still coming off the bench, but when the game is on the line, Ostertag has been on the court. He has been playing quite a bit of power forward in Utah's small lineup when Malone moves over to center.

Stockton's backup has been running the team with confidence as usual, but his shooting touch has been off the past few games. He was just 4-for-16 (25 percent) from the field over the weekend. He dished out seven assists in only 18 minutes against the Mavericks, however.

Antoine Carr Center/forward

The Big Dawg has missed five consecutive games with a strained right hamstring. He was hoping to be ready for the Dallas game. He practiced with the team on Thursday, but the hamstring began to act up during the pregame shoot-around Friday morning, so he sat out both the Dallas and Lakers games. He should be back in the lineup sometime this week.

Greg Foster Center/forward

Perhaps the Jazz's most emotional player ticked off the Lakers Saturday night when he taunted the L.A. bench following a fast-break slam. Shaquille O'Neal called him a "bum" and other things that cannot be printed in a family newspaper following the game. Foster has been rebounding better over the past month than he has at any time of his career.

The Jazz's only rookie continues to wait for his turn to play. It's still not happening unless the game is a blowout, since Stockton and Eisley have the point guard position well covered. He's trying to remain positive.

He's not getting the 20 minutes per game he said he wanted when he returned from Orlando after the aborted trade, but he is playing nearly every game in the first half and doing a solid job. He averaged six points and 11 minutes of playing time in the three games last week.
