Yesterday, my 8-year-old daughter came home from public school in tears. Why? Because some members of the "dominant religion" (arguably, the most persecuted of religions in the 19th century United States) have taught their children to persecute in the name of their religion.

These children, my daughter's "friends," have now ostracized her because she is a "Christian." It is ironic that though the LDS Church leadership proclaim their church to be "Christian," some members continue to fill their offspring with such venom toward Christianity that their children would use that name as an epithet. Please do not mistake this as an attack on all LDS; it is not. In the one year that my family has lived in Bountiful, we have been blessed to find thoughtful neighbors with kind children who have welcomed us into this community. This is intended as a wake-up call to that minority within the majority religion in Utah to:

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

The way of my Lord Jesus Christ, whose name graces the front of every ward house, is not the way of hatred, bigotry, intolerance and cruelty. His is the way of love for all God's children.
