University of Utah basketball fans who didn't make the trip to San Antonio will have to find or create their own huge, frenzied crowd with which to share Saturday night's Final Four semifinal game.
The Huntsman Center, the Utes' home arena, won't be open for a mass viewing of the 6:15 p.m. contest against top-ranked North Carolina. And the Delta Center won't be available, either. It will be packed with Utah Jazz fans for a high-profile NBA game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Rick James, Huntsman Center manager, said the university arena will be occupied until 10 p.m. Saturday by a conference for local dance instructors. He said university officials tried to re-schedule the Company Dance conference but could not because the event is under contract.
The Huntsman Center would be available Monday night, however, if the Utes make it to the NCAA Championship game. James said university athletic officials were meeting Friday morning in San Antonio to decide whether to open the Huntsman Center to Ute fans on Monday, assuming the Utes win Saturday.
