Kevin Rice was given the nickname "Instant Rice" by many of the Aggie faithful this season. The name, of course, referred to his uncanny knack of leaping and dunking so quickly his defenders usually never made it off the ground in defense.

"Instant" took on a whole new meaning Thursday night at the NCAA Slam Dunk Championship, though. It was more describing of his time in the spotlight. Dubbed as one of the early favorites by Dick Vitale, Rice didn't even make it past the second round.Rice had a pair of spectacular dunks, but his timing on each was off by a fraction. So instead of rocking the backboard with a burst of power, Rice barely managed to get the ball over the rim.

The result was two average scores and an instant fifth-place finish. Only the top four advanced to the finals.
