East High's Bryan S. Drury has won first place for his piece, "Randy," in the 17th annual Artistic Discovery competition.

Rep. Merrill Cook, R-Utah, gave Drury and six other winners award certificates Saturday in Springville. The U.S. House of Representatives sponsors the competition to encourage artistic activity among Utah's high school students.Taylorsville High's Melissa Van Schelt took second place for her "Afraid to Speak" painting. Bingham High's Chris Brewer, Highland's Erica Houston, Taylorsville High's Shawna Calder, Olympus' Chester Bailey, Highland's Vicent Fiches won honorable mentions.
