Saturday, March 28, is a special day for taxpayers because the Internal Revenue Service has announced that tax returns will be prepared free at two locations.

Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., tax returns will be prepared free in the Valley Fair Mall as they will from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the IRS office, 50 S. 200 East.Wally Hutton, IRS district director, said some of the people having their tax returns prepared could qualify for a bonus in earned income tax credit. "Why not visit us at one of the two sites to check your qualification for the credit and get help in filling out your tax return free of charge?" he asked.

To qualify for an earned income tax credit, if you worked last year, even part-time, and earned less than $25,760 and have one qualifying child living with you, Hutton said there may be anywhere from a few dollars to as much as $2,210 waiting for you.

If you earned less than $29,290 and have two qualifying children living with you, you may be eligible for as much as $3,656. Single people earning under $9,770 with no children, can also receive a tax credit for as much as $332.

The IRS office also will be open on two other Saturdays, April 4 and 11, when employees will answer questions and provide forms and publications.
