The current solid waste collection company, Waste Management, has proposed to increase monthly rates from $3.11 to $3.70 per home for the first garbage container. For second containers, the cost would rise from 59 cents to $1.65.The company also wants to use the Wasatch Front cost-of-living index to determine all future costs increases.
The current first and second can costs for neighboring Centerville are $2.91 and $2.91, while for nearby Kaysville the prices are $3.45 and $1 - according to a survey by Farmington City.
Layton charges $4.53 and $2.74 and Woods Cross $2.49 and 50 cents.
These costs are for garbage pickup only and do not include the costs of the Wasatch Energy Systems for the burn plant and landfill.
