President Leonid Kuchma said Saturday he will urge Ukrainians to vote for reformists in upcoming parliamentary elections and warned that a low turnout will mean a communist-dominated legislature.

"I will exhort Ukrainians to vote," Kuchma told regional media leaders, saying the parliament will be skewed to the left if elderly pensioners and other traditional communist supporters are the only ones who cast votes in the March 29 elections."Our target is to draw our youth, who are more progressive," he said.

Kuchma also said he feared many disgruntled voters will throw away their votes and boost leftists by voting against all 30 parties on the ballot.
