Construction has started on another LDS Church building on the Idaho State University campus.
When completed, the $3.5 million stake center behind Reed Gymnasium will house all of the university's student wards. The church's $4.5 million Institute for Religion recently opened on a block next to ISU's Eli M. Oboler Library.Groundbreaking on the newest project for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints drew about 200 people Sunday.
The building is scheduled to be finished in 14 months, architect Jim Lystrup said.
Land for the new center was included in a controversial land swap between the university and LDS Church. The school got the old institute building on Red Hill, while the church gained ground for the new institute and 10 acres for the new center.
