A new medical clinic has been opened in Monroe by the Gunnison Valley Hospital, board member Paul Dyreng has announced.

Hospital administrator Greg Rosenvall said the clinic has been in the planning stages for several months, but discussions have been confined to the board's executive sessions until a final decision was made. Monroe has been without medical facilities since a former clinic closed early last year. That clinic closed when a doctor who was working for Intermountain Health Care lost his privileges at Sevier Valley Hospital, operated a clinic independently for a while, and then left the area. The Sevier Valley Hospital was approached about reopening the clinic but chose not to do so, Rosenvall said.

A physician's assistant will be at the new clinic and Dr. John Jackson, who will be responsible for its operation, will be at the location two and a half days each week.
