David Letterman would rather be off to the races.
The late-night talk show host has been a minority partner in Bobby Rahal's CART team, based in Hilliard, Ohio, since 1996. But his television schedule prevents him from getting away as often as he'd like.Letterman became a fan of auto racing while growing up in Indiana and watching the Indianapolis 500 "in the days when guys would draw up their plans every year on a garage floor with a hunk of chalk."
"When you get on the grounds of a race track, the hair on the back of your hands starts to stand up. It's a thrill to stand next to one of the cars and feel the rumble as the engine turns over," he said Thursday during a telephone news conference with Rahal.
