Construction of a new 10,000-seat stadium at the Weber County Fairgrounds will push ahead, even though the project couldn't get $500,000 in expected funds from the Utah Legislature.

The Legislature gave $500,000 to the $4 million project in 1997 but snubbed requests for $500,000 more last session. The county is planning to use some bonding, some private donations and whatever pennies it can pinch to pay for the rest of the stadium.

Arena Board Chairman Dick Myers said the board is also contacting individuals about paying about $500,000 to have the stadium named for them.
