Martinus Bird Nielsen, age 77, passed away March 17, 1998 at home of a respiratory illness.
Born April 29, 1920 in Payson, Ut. to Alvin Victor and Grace Tew Nielsen. Married Marge Yvonne Thorup, July 30, 1940 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. He was a graduate of Natrona County High School in Casper, Wyo. Veteran US Army, World War II. Retired foreman for Union Carbide Inc. An active member of the LDS church, served as a ward organist, bishops counselor, bishop, high councilman, stake missionary, ward clerk, Y.M.M.I.A., priesthood advisor, teacher, and family orchestra.Survived by wife; children, Brent B. (Gerd) Nielsen, Claudia (Eric) Dalton, Richard D. (Diane) Nielsen, Sybil Barrett, Janice Margie (David) Fairbourn, Lynn S. (Gayla) Nielsen, Lester T. (Janice) Nielsen, Crystal (Lorenz) Laing, Colleen (Gary) Rasmussen; 64 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank (Lois) Nielsen; sisters, Marilyn (Arlo) Maxwell, Alverda Marchant, Barbara Prescott, Faye (Joe) Lewis. Preceded in death by a brother, Theo; and a sister Laura Scott.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, 1998 at 11 a.m., at the Jordan River Parkway LDS Ward, 3364 West, 11400 South. Friends may call Friday, March 20, 1998 from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State St. and Saturday at the church 10-10:45 a.m. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
