Candace Marie Goodheart Phillips, age 47, passed away peacefully on March 11, 1998 at South Valley Health Center, West Jordan, UT, as a result of complications from surgery on October 30, 1997.

She was born July 31, 1950 in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Robert Ralph Goodheart and Fairy Lee Marsh, a dryland wheat and milo farmer/cattle rancher. She married Martin S. Phillips September 29, 1978 in Great Bend, Kansas. Candace loved horses and started riding (in a corral) while wearing diapers. She began working in law enforcement with the Russell, Kansas Police Department. After moving to Utah, she became a career employee of the South Salt Lake City Police Department from June 1979 to the time of her death. Candace was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother holding her extended family together. She was a dedicated and loyal career employee. She was always continuing her education and training. Candace put her care and concern for others first.Survivors include her husband, Martin, Herriman, UT; daughters, Melissa (Chris) Brown, SLC, UT; Alisha Smith, South Jordan, UT and Marlene (Joe) Durgin, Philadelphia, NY; Jody (David) Gerber, SLC, UT; Thad Phillips, SLC, UT; grandchildren, Kayla, Tahnee, Patrick, Joey, Brynn, Kyle, and Tevita; brothers, Mark (Jane) Goodheart, Bison, KS; and Tim (Belinda) Goodheart, Olathe, KS; mother, Fairy Lee (Ron) Brown, Midvale, UT. Preceded in death by her father and both sets of grandparents.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 20, 1998, 3 p.m. at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, SLC, UT. Interment, private.
