After years of being maligned by the rest of America, New York City is getting good reviews.

A national poll conducted by The New York Times shows 61 percent of people surveyed have a generally "good image" of the city, compared with the 43 percent who did so in 1996.About one in four people said crime was the city's main attribute in 1996, but half as many said so in the latest poll. The characteristic most frequently attributed to the city in the new poll: It's big.
