The City Council approved rezoning recently that clears the way for construction of another 130 apartments in the city. The council narrowly passed rezoning seven acres at 894 S. 1500 East from agricultural status to multi-family use by a 3-2 vote.
Triton Investments wants to construct apartments on the land, located near the existing Pepper Ridge Apartment complex. Triton will ask the council for site plan approval of its project at a future meeting. The Planning Commission recommended the rezone, but Councilmen Ivan Anderson and James Barlow voted against having more apartments in the area.
Triton officials believe the expansion of the workforce at Hill Air Force Base will create the need for more apartments.
