TRACK: The BYU women's indoor track team, champion of the Western Athletic Conference, placed 10th at the NCAA Championships Saturday in Indianapolis, scoring 18.50 points.
Amy Palmer placed second in the shot put (56-08.75); Becky Jackson (11-07.75) was eighth in the pole vault; Kristel Berendsen ninth in the long jump (42-09.75); and Tara Haynes eighth in the mile run (4:47.29).
BASEBALL: BYU scored six unearned runs with two out in the fourth inning Saturday to defeat Southern Illinois, 7-1. The game was shortened to five innings and played in steady rain.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: It was another easy dual meet for the 10th-ranked Cougars, who defeated Clemson 8-1 in Provo on Saturday. Holly Parkinson, Eline Chiew and Adrien Jenkins won their respective one through three singles matches.
DIVING: BYU freshman Justin Wilcock continued the hot streak that won him two WAC diving titles last week by finishing second on the three-meter board at the Zone E Qualifying meet in Colorado Springs Friday.
TRACK & FIELD: Utah State senior Shane Bingham finished 10th in the mile run in 4:09.76 and sophomore Shae Jones cleared 11-07.75 in the pole vault and finished eighth to complete the final rounds of competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Indianapolis.
SOFTBALL: Utah State rode a pair of strong pitching performances to a doubleheader sweep of Southern Utah Saturday, taking a 5-0 win in the opener and an 11-0 decision in the nightcap.
