James R. Tolonen, Novell Inc.'s senior vice president and chief financial officer, has resigned after 15 years with the company.

Novell said Dennis R. Raney has joined the company as interim chief financial officer, with responsibility for all financial activities, corporate facilities worldwide and information systems.Raney, 55, has held CFO positions at Bristol Myers Squibb-pharmaceutical, General Magic, California Microwave and QAD Inc.

Novell said Tolonen will remain with the company through April 30 to assist in the transition. Tolonen said he will take time off before deciding on his next career move.
