If you are planning to go to Lake Powell for Memorial Day weekend, you might want to plan ahead. Advance reservations will be required in the Stanton Creek, Upper Bullfrog, Hite, Farley Canyon and Lone Rock Beach areas.
The advance reservations are part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area's evolving plan to collect user fees from recreationists at Lake Powell. In 1997, camping and boating fees were implemented in the Wahweap Marina and Lone Rock areas. This year, the fee program was expanded to Lees Ferry, Bullfrog, Halls Crossing and Hite. The advance reservations for Upper Bullfrog and Stanton Creek are intended to curtail the wild parties that became part of the Memorial Day tradition at Lake Powell. Those parties created health, en-vi-ron-men-tal and safety concerns that prompted a crackdown two years ago.
Due to visitor demand for the permits, there is a three-day minimum reservation at a $6-per-vehicle fee per day.
