The New York Islanders, Utah's parent club in the NHL, fired its head coach, Rich Bowness, on Wednesday. But Grizzlies coach Butch Goring had little to say about the move.

"I feel bad for him, he's a coach," was all Goring said after hearing of the decision.Goring, who was a key player in the Islanders' glory years of the early '80s, has been rumored at various times as a possible replacement for Bowness, who was a captain with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles during the 1979-80 season.

New York hasn't made the playoffs since 1994 and currently is seven points out of the eighth and final spot. However, the Islanders don't appear interested in Goring for the remainder of this season. The team announced that general manager Mike Milbury will resume head coaching duties, a position he first held in New York in 1995.
