Alma Owen Powell, 83, passed away at his home on March 7, 1998, surrounded by the love of his family there and in spirit.
Alma was born April 13, 1914, in Duchesne, Utah, to John Taylor Powell and Mary Ann Smith. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Alma enjoyed the land and was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He also worked as watermaster for the Carbon Canal. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II. Alma was awarded five bronze stars and one silver star.He returned to England and married his eternal sweetheart, Betty Doreen Hudson Coles, in Witney Oxfordshire, England, on August 17, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Alma will dearly be missed by all who loved him and knew him.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty; one son and his wife, Brent and Carolshene Powell; three daughters and their husbands, Susan and Darren Stucki, Denise and Pete Johnson, Doreen and Scott Strong; 13 special grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lamar Powell of Ferron, UT; Woodrow Powell of San Pablo, CA; four sisters, Ruby Mazzarise and Marcella Powell, both of Helper, UT; Mary Ann King of Portland, OR; and Wanda Cloward of Carbonville, UT.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Vivan, Movell and Acel; sisters, Alda, Lucille and Isabel.
Funeral service, Wednesday, Mary 11, 1998, 1 p.m. at the Price Third LDS Ward Chapel located at 303 West 500 South, Price, Utah. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to services. Interment: Price City Cemetery.
