Michael Crawford, the former Phantom of the Opera, has been making his way across the country, appearing on public-television pledge drives when stations broadcast "Michael Crawford in Concert."
Monday night, on WNET-TV in New York, went more smoothly than San Francisco, where a pledge-taker handed him a telephone and told the caller, "He's right here, he really is.""This woman proposed to me," Crawford said. "Scared the heck out of me. Instead of getting me, she got a little pin for her lapel, which I hope will suffice for a few years, and a signed CD."
