A Tooele man was injured when his pickup was struck by a train Friday morning.
James M. Ball, 44, was thrown from his vehicle when it was hit by a train at a crossing near Payson, the Utah County Sheriff's Office said. A resident who lives near the crossing, approximately 10000 South and 4200 West, told police the truck pulled almost onto the tracks and then rolled backward just before the collision.Ball suffered a fractured leg and possibly a concussion. He was listed in fair condition at Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem.
Police said the cause of the accident is still under investigation. Snow was falling when the accident happened at 10:15 a.m., but investigators said they are unsure if weather was a factor in the collision.
Friday's accident was the second car-train collision in Utah County this week. On Sunday, a 16-year-old Lehi boy was killed and his 16-year-old friend injured when their vehicle collided with a train in Orem.
