When West Jordan's mayor and City Council members start dancing in the council chambers March 7, it won't be the old sidestep.

They'll merely be hosting the annual Mayor's Ball, a tradition in this community of 65,000-plus people, from 8 to 11 p.m.It's billed as an "Evening of Elegance," and conversations about water rate increases or rezoning petitions will be frowned upon if not banned outright.

Live dance music for the evening will be provided by the group Portraits.

The West Jordan Arts Council will hold a pre-ball showing of "Wondrous Things" in the Shorr Gallery at 7 p.m.

There is no admission charge.
